Is Your Computer Unusually Slow?
- Spyware- is software that
helps a third-party (i.e. a marketing company) gather
information about a person or persons without the knowledge
or consent of the individual. These small programs often
quietly install themselves when you install certain other
programs (such as peer to peer file sharing programs).
Spyware applications report to central location information
such as websites you have visited in an effort to gain
information about you usually for the purpose of sale.
- Adware- Very similar to
Spyware, is software that installs using methods close to
Spyware and causes banner adds to pop up while you do
everyday tasks such as browse the web. Again, this is done
without the user's knowledge or permission.
- With the increased popularity of
cookies on WebPages and peer to peer file sharing programs,
Spyware and Adware have become a common nuisance and
invasion of privacy. These types of software have been
proven to cause unusually high bandwidth consumption, as
well as causing other types of operating system problems.
